Hiker inside the 'Wave', a sandstone rock formation in on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. This remote, unspoiled 294,000-acre national monument is a geologic treasure of towering cliffs, deep canyons, and spectacular sandstone formations in Northern Arizona near the Utah border. Permits are required for hikes in Paria Canyon and the Coyote Buttes area. A rugged, trackless hike is required to reach this location via Wire Pass trail, a 3 mile hike in open desert.
